Our Story | Cervélo
Cervélo time trial bike and rider on course

Our story / 1995 — now

Born in
the tunnel.

Cervélo began with an aerodynamic question and a refusal to accept the bicycle as finished. Three decades later, that curiosity still shapes everything we make.

A short history of going faster

The road was
never enough.

In 1995, Cervélo started as an aerodynamics project. The idea was direct: apply the thinking of aerospace to the bicycle, and make a rider measurably faster. We still believe the best ideas are the ones that survive contact with the road.

01

1995

Cervélo is founded around an aerodynamic project. The wind tunnel becomes a design tool, not a finishing touch.

02

Athlete first

Close work with elite athletes turns laboratory insight into handling, fit, and speed that can be felt on a course.

03

The full picture

Aerodynamics matters. So do weight, stiffness, handling, and fit. Fast means all of them working together.

04

Still curious

The question has not changed: what can we remove, refine, or rethink to make a rider faster?

The Cervélo way

Make the complex feel simple.

Great engineering does not ask the rider to think about engineering. It makes a bike feel composed at speed, willing on a climb, and precise when the road turns. That feeling is the standard.

1Question

How do we make this rider faster?

∞Iterations

There is always another detail to improve.

What stays true

A clear brief.
A better ride.

01

Question everything

We start with the rider, the road, and the moments that decide a ride. The data comes after the question.

02

Earn every detail

Nothing is added for decoration. Every shape, layer, and interface has to make the whole system work harder.

03

Take it outside

The world is the test bench. If an idea cannot handle real wind, real corners, and real riders, it is not finished.

The reason we ride

“The fastest bike is the one that lets you forget the bike.”
