ASPERO RIVAL AXS 1

ASPERO RIVAL AXS 1 Gravel Performance

The ASPERO RIVAL AXS 1 is a gravel bike designed for riders who want speed, control and versatility across mixed-surface roads. Cervélo developed the ASPERO specifically for gravel riding, with a focus on efficient performance and confident handling.

The bike combines a gravel-specific frame with SRAM Rival AXS electronic shifting. It also features wide-range 12-speed gearing and a Reserve carbon wheelset. This creates a versatile setup for gravel racing, training rides and long mixed-surface adventures.

Cervélo currently lists the ASPERO RIVAL AXS 1 at $5,800.

SRAM Rival AXS Electronic Shifting

The ASPERO RIVAL AXS 1 uses a SRAM Rival AXS electronic drivetrain. The current specification includes a 46T chainring with a 10–52T 12-speed setup. This provides a wide range of gears for changing gravel terrain.

Higher gears can help maintain speed on fast sections and paved connections. Lower gears provide useful range for steep climbs, loose surfaces and longer gravel routes.

Electronic shifting also allows quick gear changes while riding. This can be useful when a course changes from a fast section into a steep climb or technical section.

Cervélo ASPERO Gravel Bike Design

Cervélo designed the ASPERO around the demands of modern gravel riding. The current generation includes several updates that improve its versatility and long-distance performance.

The frame uses a threaded T47a bottom bracket and a Universal Derailleur Hanger. The UDH design also provides compatibility with SRAM Transmission drivetrains. Cervélo has refined the cable routing and adjusted the frame to provide additional compliance at the rear.

Cervélo also reduced front-end stiffness slightly and added more mud clearance. These changes are intended to make the bike more comfortable and practical during long gravel races and changing weather conditions.

Gravel Handling and Tire Setup

Gravel routes can change quickly. A single ride may include smooth hardpack, loose gravel, rough roads and technical corners.

The ASPERO is designed specifically for these conditions. Its gravel geometry balances stability with responsive handling, allowing riders to maintain control when the surface becomes less predictable.

Tire selection can further change the bike’s character. Riders can select tires based on terrain, weather and riding style. Wider tires can provide additional traction and comfort, while faster-rolling options can suit smoother gravel and mixed road routes.

The frame’s additional mud clearance is also useful when riding in wet conditions or on courses where mud can accumulate around the tires.

Reserve Carbon Gravel Wheels

The ASPERO RIVAL AXS 1 comes with a Reserve 40|44TA GR carbon wheelset and Reserve 4LD hubs.

A dedicated gravel wheelset helps create a performance-focused setup. Wheel choice affects acceleration, handling and overall ride feel, particularly when gravel surfaces become rough or unpredictable.

The Reserve wheelset also complements the bike’s carbon handlebar and carbon seatpost. Together, these components provide a balanced configuration for riders who want a capable gravel bike without moving to a higher-priced race build.

ASPERO RIVAL AXS 1 for Gravel Racing

The ASPERO RIVAL AXS 1 is designed for riders who want a dedicated gravel bike for racing and fast mixed-surface riding. SRAM Rival AXS provides electronic shifting, while the 10–52T gearing offers a broad range for different gradients.

The bike can also work well for gravel training and endurance riding. Riders can adjust tire choice and other setup details to match the route, terrain and weather.

This flexibility makes the ASPERO platform suitable for both competitive gravel events and everyday exploration beyond paved roads.

Gravel Bike for Training and Adventure

A modern gravel bike needs to perform beyond race day. The ASPERO RIVAL AXS 1 can be used for structured training, endurance rides and long mixed-surface routes.

Its gravel-specific frame is designed around changing terrain. The updated frame also provides improved comfort and additional mud clearance compared with the previous platform.

For riders who regularly combine pavement with gravel, this versatility can make the bike useful throughout the year.
